O processo de alteração do Código do Trabalho em matéria de despedimentos por extinção do posto de trabalho e por inadaptação está em curso, pretendendo o Governo realizar alterações substitutivas das que foram consideradas inconstitucionais. No processo negocial, o Governo apresentou diversas propostas e manteve contactos institucionais e informais, tendo a UGT mantido sempre uma posição firme de indisponibilidade para discutir qualquer alteração ao regime em causa que não cumprisse o objectivo fundamental de obstar a despedimentos discricionários e arbitrários por parte dos empregadores.
